The UK-based Eve Foundation has officially announced the launch of its much-anticipated Hawa Maternity Hospital.
This modern healthcare facility is committed to delivering maternal care to the local populace, with a special emphasis on aiding those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
While Bangladesh has made commendable strides in lowering maternal mortality rates over recent years, according to the United Nations, there’s still a considerable gap to fill—particularly in rural regions where healthcare services are scarce. The country’s maternal mortality rate stands at a concerning 181 deaths per 100,000 live births, underscoring the urgent need for increased investment in maternal healthcare.
Initially, the Hawa Maternity Hospital will feature a 15-bed general ward along with 5-6 specialized rooms for complicated cases. The hospital’s service offerings will span from prenatal to postnatal care and will include a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the treatment of premature and critically ill newborns.
A cadre of highly trained medical professionals, including obstetricians, midwives, and nurses, will staff the hospital. These experts will be dedicated to delivering care that not only meets medical standards but is also deeply rooted in customer service and ethical considerations.
The Eve Foundation is steadfast in its mission to make the hospital accessible to everyone in the community, particularly those who are most vulnerable. A sliding fee scale will be implemented to accommodate those who can afford to contribute financially without compromising on our commitment to the needs of the vulnerable.
“We couldn’t be more excited to offer this essential service to the rural community in Sylhet,” expressed Dr. Anwara Ali MBE, co-founder of the Eve Foundation. “We are firm believers that every woman should have the right to high-quality maternal healthcare, irrespective of her geographic location or economic status.”
Harun Rashid, the Director of International Development, added, “Our guiding ethos is rooted in a non-profit and ethical framework. We view ourselves as devoted stewards of humanity, aiming to uplift the values of love and compassion in all our endeavours.”
The foundation is actively seeking financial support to make this vision a reality and plans to commence construction later this year.
